Two years ago, in August of 2014, then candidate for State Senate, Ben Allen, posed for the photo above with then Manhattan Beach Mayor, Amy Thomas Howorth, and new Chair of the South Bay Clean Power Working Group, Joe Galliani.

Flash forward 2 years and now State Senator Ben Allen has been a strong and consistent supporter of our Community Choice Power efforts.

Yesterday, in his comments on AB 1110, the Senator gave a very important floor speech on the bill in which he insisted that the CEC and CARB must establish greenhouse gas reporting standards that include full lifecycle emissions of electricity sources.

We salute Senator Allen’s wisdom and leadership on this issue and we are deeply gratified to have such an environmental champion playing a leadership role on CCAs in Sacramento. Thank you, Senator Ben Allen!

The Los Angeles County CCA Feasibility Study & Business Plan

Here it is, released Thursday night.

We are amused that the words “South Bay Clean Power” are nowhere to be found in this document since the LA County Program is the result of our efforts and began at our request to Supervisor Don Knabe’s office in November of 2014.

Perhaps the report’s Kirkland, Washington consultants did not review our website or history as part of their due diligence or best practices in this, their first effort at a California CCA business plan.

Please note that this document is the work of the LA County Internal Services Department and has not been reviewed or approved by Supervisors Knabe and Kuehl, or the Board of Supervisors.  Rest assured both of our CCA champions are well informed and up to speed about our role and efforts in this process.

Top 5 Things LA County Community Choice Energy Business Plan Will Say

Even though the Los Angeles Community Choice Energy “Business Plan” which will combine a feasibility study with an implementation plan for the County’s CCA still hasn’t been published, those of us who have participated on the LA County CCA Task Force have a good idea of some of the headline items that will be in the plan. Here’s 5 things you can expect to see confirmed:

  1. Los Angeles Community Choice Energy can offer 50% renewable energy to its customers at a lower rate than Southern California Edison delivers 28% renewable energy.
